Arrived at last!

This Indonesian adventure has finally begun! I left El Paso's triple digits early Friday morning, stopped in Dallas, then Tokyo, and finally Jakarta Saturday night/Sunday morning at 11:30 PM. After the 28 hours of flights, the 2 hours to get through Indonesian customs, get a visitor visa (Visa on Arrival), and make it to the hotel were a breeze! And although sleep deprivation is not really a good thing, being completely exhausted did convince my brain to go to sleep for the night at what was about 2pm El Paso time.
This stop in Jakarta is a short one - today I head back to the airport to meet up with the UTEP student group and take a short flight over to the island of Borneo - we are flying to Balikpapan (city), in East Kalamantan (state). I would love to stay here longer - this hotel is beautiful! - to explore Jakarta. I'll try to send in some photos from the hotel, they aren't posting right now - there is a lovely courtyard with lots of lush tropical plants, and Sooty Headed Bulbuls (a cheerful common little bird with a black crest and a yellow bottom - see bulbul info) chattering in the trees. But for now I am off to Borneo!
Until next time!
